TargetPf is a comprehensive tool for P. falciparum protein localization prediction, which can act as an aid in refining the current localization annotations of P. falciparum-specific databases.

In order to allow for the great variations in the signal peptide predictions of various tools like SignalP, TargetP, MalSig or SigCleave, all of them have been incorporated into TargetPf.
The process of localization prediction is very complex in P. falciparum, with some of the target destinations being present only in certain stages of the development life-cycle of the parasite. The AT-richness of the parasite genome also contributes to the complexity in predicting protein localization.
TargetPf, currently, supports the prediction of proteins localizing to the parasite-specific organelles Apicoplast, Mitochondrion and Rhoptries; as well as for those localizing to the host cell(human red blood cell or RBC) cytoplasm.
